Recreating the Watercooler Moment for Distributed Teams

One of the main benefits of working from an office is the serendipitous moments where you meet other people and have informal discussions about work. In general, these were referred to as watercooler moments and resulted in unplanned collaborations and innovations in companies.

Everest Engineering's Craig W Brown says

"My absolute favourite thing about Berst is the ability to bump into people you didn't plan to see."

Craig uses Berst in a really creative way to recreate those watercooler moments with a team that is spread across Australia and India.

By using Berst as their main meeting place for his team Craig is able to stay in the lobby of Everest's Virtual Office for much of the day; and as his team members jump onto the platform for their different meetings and standups, he has the opportunity to meet them and have discussions about whatever's on their minds.

Being able to see where people are in the available rooms, also encourages his team to jump into rooms where there are only 1 or 2 people and have that serendipitous chat that you use to have in person.
